WhyHunger, originally known as World Hunger Year (WHY), is a charity founded by Harry Chapin and Bill Ayres in 1975 to help combat hunger. While Chapin was involved in numerous humanitarian efforts in his lifetime, his fight against hunger is his greatest legacy.

Each year WhyHunger recognizes those in the performing arts, media, and charitable organizations. The ASCAP Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award commemorates the activism of Harry Chapin.
