Mr. Tanner is a Harry Chapin song released on Short Stories. Mr. Tanner was based on a New York Times review of a performance by Martin Tubridy (note: the name is often misspelled Turbidy). There were actually two reviews published in the New York Times, the first on March 28, 1971[1] and the second on February 17, 1972.[2]

Mr. Tanner became a concert staple with John Wallace singing the part of Mr. Tanner. At solo concerts, Harry would often bring audience members on the stage to sing Big John's part solo.
