Mr. Tanner is a Harry Chapin song released on Short Stories . Mr. Tanner was based on a review of a performance by Martin Tubridy (note: the name is often misspelled Turbidy) published in the New York Times on February 17, 1972. Mr. Tanner became a concert staple with John Wallace singing the part of Mr. Tanner. At solo concerts, Harry would often bring audience members on the stage to sing Big John's part solo.
