In June 1978 Harry Chapin performed in a benefit concert to fight proposition 8 in California, which would have outlawed gays and lesbians from teaching in California public schools. Over $25,000 was reported to have been raised. The proposition was defeated that November with 58% voting against the proposition. Also, appearing were Joan Baez, Peter Yarrow, and Holly Near.[1]
