Lies and Legends is play of Harry Chapin story songs that was assembled after his death. The play premiered in Chicago in 1984. A cast album from a play was also released on vinyl in 1984. This musical is still performed around the country to this day.

- April 24 - Village Gate, NYC. It ran for 79 shows. The cast included John Herrera, Amanda McBroom, George Ball, Ron Orbach & Ann Kerry.
- May 23 - Centre Stage Company at the Bluma Appel Theatre, Toronto, ON, Canada. Lies and Legends: The Musical Stories of Harry Chapin opened on this day in Toronto at the. The play ran through June 22. The cast included: Kevin Hicks, Vince Metcalfe, Diane Stapley, Moira Walley, and Alec Willows.
- July 29 - Pasadena Playhouse in CA. Harry Chapin: Lies and Legends played through September 11.

- February 29 - Encore Room Theatre at the Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami, FL. Harry Chapin's America was reviewed by Bill Hirschman for the Sun-Sentinel. Also, Jackie Potts reviewed the play for the Miami New Times. The show ran through May 21st. The show received 5 nominations for local Carbonell awards. - May 19 - The Lost Nation Theater Company and the Montpelier High School Masque at the Montpelier City Hall Arts Center, Montpelier, VT. Lies and Legends: The Music of Harry Chapin ran through May 28.
- July 27 - Rubicon Theatre in Ventura, CA. Lies and Legend: The Music of Harry Chapin was reviewed by the LA Times. Rob Stevens of Showmag.com gave this performance a great review[4] . The show ran through August 27th.

- January 30 - Cabaret Club of the Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota, FL. Harry Chapin and Friends included the music Harry Chapin and his contemporaries. The musical revue ran through March 24.
