Kevin MulvennaKevin plays a musical style that reminds me of Harry Chapin, Tom Chapin, Jimmy Buffet, Dan Fogelberg, and occasionally Pork and the Havana Ducks all rolled up into one. His concerts usually feature a Chapin song or two. This Wisconsin-based artist plays gigs primarily around the Midwest. His music runs from the humorous (generally "regional" humor about Wisconsin) to ballads to protest and social commentary, much like Harry's. "Keep the Change" from Kevin's Red, White, and Blue cassette is a moving song about Harry. The liner notes for the song say it all... "For the late, great Harry Chapin. From 1977 until Harry's tragic death in 1981, I had the pleasure of attending dozens of Chapin concerts front stage and back. I even twisted his arm into teaching me a couple of his tunes. We miss you Harry". I've seen Kevin live twice. I found his performance was captivating. His broad, contagious smile seems to say I'm having a blast performing here today. He handled satirical songs about ex-wives to more serious songs with equal skill. |
