Harry's musical The Night That Made America Famous opens on Broadway early in the year. Once the run is over Howie Fields, Doug Walker, and brother Steve join the band and hit the road. Ron Palmer leaves the band. Portrait Gallery is released. Chapin also co-founded World Hunger Year with Bill Ayres in March.

Tom starts his fifth and final year of hosting of Make a Wish.

February

  • 3 - Chapin performed at Vassar College, the performance was interrupted by a bomb threat. In classic Chapin style, he finished the concert on the steps outside the hall.[1][2]

March

April

Harry and Richie Havens were the opening act for John Mayall at Brown University's Meehan Auditorium. The exact date in April is unknown.[3]

June

  • 6 - Harry and Michael Murphy opened for Seal and Crofts at The Providence Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island.[4]
