What Made America Famous

What Made America Famous is a Harry Chapin song released on the Verities and Balderdash album. This song was the inspiration for Harry's 1975 Broadway musical The Night That Made America Famous. It was the show's finale.

The song was based on Harry's experiences living in Point Lookout on Long Island, New York in the late 1960's. In conservative Point Lookout there was a suspicious fire one night at a low-income apartment building. Harry used that as launching point imagining how the fire department responded to the fire.[1]
